We tackled the challenge of marine litter using advanced image annotation techniques, utilizing both polygon and bounding box annotation, timely delivering a robust dataset to train ML algo & support conservation efforts.

We used polygon and bounding box annotations for comprehensive and accurate marine litter identification. COCO JSON format annotations were provided for seamless integration into research.

VE3 partnered with the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) to develop a machine learning algorithm capable of identifying at least 89 marine litter items based on international protocols. To achieve this, approximately 7,000 high-resolution images from beaches were annotated.
