Optimizing Data Lifecycle Management for GeoTech Solutions

Objective

To automate and streamline the management of GeoTech Solutions’ extensive geospatial datasets, ensuring efficient transitions through their lifecycle stages while minimizing manual oversight.

Challenges & Approach

Challenges

  • Managing vast amounts of growing geospatial data (421TB with an annual increase of 20-50TB) manually becomes inefficient and prone to errors.
  • The complexity of handling different types of geospatial data (vector, raster, imagery) and maintaining consistent data management processes.
  • Lack of automation leads to inefficiencies and an increased risk of oversight in data archiving and deletion.

VE3’s Approach

  • VE3 implemented an automated lifecycle management solution leveraging metadata such as creation date, access frequency, and last modified date.
  • Lifecycle stages (e.g., creation, active use, archival, deletion) were automated based on these metadata parameters.
  • Event triggers were incorporated to automatically archive or delete data based on inactivity, significantly reducing the need for manual intervention.

Outcomes

  • Automation of data tagging and transitions between lifecycle stages reduced human errors and operational inefficiencies.
  • Frequently accessed data was stored in high-performance environments, while less frequently used data was archived in cost-effective storage.
  • Seamless integration with GeoTech Solutions’ existing data tools ensured smooth management across different geospatial data formats, improving overall operational efficiency.Â
