Building Criteo’s Global Presence with a Scalable, Secure, and Accessible Web Platform

Website Design & CMS For Criteo

Overview

Criteo, a global leader in digital advertising based in Paris, engaged VE3 to redesign and build a scalable, content-focused website. With over 10 million annual visitors, Criteo required a site capable of managing high traffic, improving content workflows, and ensuring security and accessibility. VE3 was tasked with developing a solution to enhance Criteo’s user experience, while adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA and OWASP Top 10 standards.

Objectives

Scalability

Develop a website to manage over 10 million visits annually.

Content Management

Improve workflows for content creation and updates

Security and Accessibility

Implement robust security and ensure compliance with accessibility standards.

VE3’s Approach

We selected Drupal, an open-source CMS, for its powerful content management features and scalability. The front-end was built using React.js, ensuring fast performance and an interactive user experience, while the back-end utilized Drupal 9. The site was hosted on AWS to provide scalability and reliability.

We designed a user-friendly, clean interface that showcased Criteo’s advertising products effectively. Using Drupal 9, we developed a flexible content management structure that allowed Criteo’s teams to easily create, manage, and update content across different regions.

We worked closely with Criteo’s content team to create a scalable content strategy. Drupal’s flexible taxonomy system was leveraged to create detailed content hierarchies and tags, improving organization and discoverability. Multilingual support allowed Criteo to efficiently manage localized content for its global audience, streamlining workflows across different regions and languages.

We implemented security measures aligned with OWASP Top 10 to protect the site from common vulnerabilities such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection. Drupal’s built-in security features, including user role management and content.

The website was deployed on AWS, leveraging its global infrastructure to ensure high availability and scalability. This allowed the site to handle traffic spikes seamlessly, particularly during peak advertising periods. We provided extensive training to Criteo’s internal teams on using Drupal’s content management features, ensuring they could manage and update the site independently

Results

  • The new website efficiently supported 10 million+ visits per year, providing a seamless user experience even during peak traffic.
  • Criteo’s content team saw a 30% reduction in the time needed to update and manage content, thanks to improved workflows and Drupal’s easy-to-use interface.
  • Page load times improved by 25%, thanks to the integration of React.js, resulting in better user engagement.
  • The use of AWS ensured the website’s high availability, security, and scalability, delivering a consistent experience for Criteo’s global audience.

This case study highlights our ability to deliver large-scale, content-driven websites with a focus on accessibility, security, and scalability. Our use of Drupal, React.js, and AWS ensured that Criteo’s website met all performance and content management needs while providing a strong foundation for future growth.
